ACCRA, Dec.16 (Xinhua) – The Ghana Football Association (GFA) said here Wednesday that the 2020/21 Division One League will start next month.

According to the GFA, the competition will begin on January 8 and will run until July 2021.

The FA had initially proposed December 3 for the start, but had to reschedule it so that the clubs had enough time to prepare for the new season, following the cancellation of the 2019/20 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Division One League is the second-tier soccer league in the country, below the Ghana Premier League. Currently, 48 clubs compete in three zones in a league format comprising 16 clubs in each zone. The winners of each zone get a promotion to the Premier League.

After recording a decrease in active COVID-19 cases in the country, the government announced a gradual approach to ease the restrictions that had been imposed. The Premier League kicked off on November 14 with COVID-19 protocols fully adhered to at all league centers across the country. Final product
