Solskjaer Believes Wilder Can Mentally Handle Pressure In Sheffield Utd Winless – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Score, Results

Chris Wilder is mentally strong enough to handle the pressure surrounding his future at Sheffield United, says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Slaven Bilic became the first managerial casualty in the Premier League this season on Wednesday, and Wilder is also feeling the heat after scoring six points behind the West Brom boss with his winless team at the bottom of the table.

Solskjaer was fired by Cardiff in 2014 after failing to keep the club in the Premier League, and he knows how difficult life can be for smaller clubs.

Ahead of United’s trip to Bramall Lane on Thursday, he endorsed Blades boss Wilder through a tough streak and hopes the pandemic will also force clubs to think twice before making a change.

“It’s not a good position to be a coach,” Solskjaer said. ‘You want your players to play with confidence, thinking and believing.

“With Cardiff, it was a new experience, a learning experience and a valuable one. I didn’t enjoy it with the results and the relegation we got, but as a coach you are one of the few if you’re not going to feel the pressure at some point.

I felt it and Chris, Slaven, whoever feels that pressure, is mentally strong enough because you have to be.

“ I think these times in a pandemic and what happened has made everyone feel and think, and maybe take a deep breath.

“I am very saddened to hear that Slaven lost his job, but I think he did very well getting a promotion. I have known him for years and I am sure he will return soon.

‘Hopefully more and more clubs think long term. You need short-term results, but continuity is the key to success and patience. ‘

The trip to Bramall Lane will see United’s No. 2 goalkeeper Dean Henderson return to the club where he was on loan for two seasons, helping the Blades win promotion to the Premier League.

“It just shows how beneficial some loan deals are sometimes,” Solskjaer said. Dean has worked his way through the system and two years at Sheffield United have brought him back as a mature quality goalkeeper.

“He had experiences with a great promotion and his year at PL was very valuable for us and for him. He made his England debut and is increasingly learning the United style.

‘Our game is a bit different. We have a couple different demands on him but we are very grateful to Sheffield United and Chris Wilder for giving him the opportunity to develop as they did. ”
