Timo Werner must address his end after his troubling goal drought continued for Chelsea in their 2-1 loss to Wolves, says former Blues star Joe Cole.

Werner played the full 90 minutes at Molineux but failed to inspire the team as Nuno Espirito Santo’s men pulled off a dramatic stoppage time winner through Pedro Neto to rack up all three points and cause a setback to the team’s title hopes. Chelsea.

Olivier Giroud, who has struggled to enter the squad for much of the season, was on the Chelsea scoreboard, with Werner shifting to the left wing. The German came to the club this summer for a £ 50 million fee and a reputation as one of Europe’s most fearsome scorers.

But he’s had a nonchalant start to life at Stamford Bridge, with just four league goals and none in his last 10 games in all competitions.

Cole, who was a fan favorite in West London, knows what it takes to be a success at the club and thinks Werner has some issues to consider, and feels that manager Frank Lampard, his former teammate team, should quit.

He stressed that Werner still has the potential to be “a top-tier player” for Chelsea, but said Lampard had options to mix things up and improve results.

“I think Werner, when he comes in on that left, is very, very dangerous,” he said as an expert on Amazon Prime Video Sport.

“ I think he just needs to brush up on his shots, but he is a young forward and he will. I have no doubt that he will be a top player for Chelsea, but now there are options and he [Lampard] you need to move it.

‘[Hakim] Ziyech and [Callum] Hudson-Odoi to come back, refresh it sometime. Get Werner out, bring him back.

“It is usually a marathon to win a title, and certainly this year. You have to use all your equipment. So Werner might go out and bring the other boys back.

Werner scored 34 goals in 45 matches for RB Leipzig last season and had the best teams from across Europe fighting for his signature, but Chelsea won the race for the coveted hitman.

German star Kai Havertz also joined from Bayer Leverkusen, coming in for around £ 71 million, but he hasn’t had the impact he would have liked either, with a positive COVID-19 test interrupting his progress.

Werner has shown glimpses of what he can offer by scoring eight goals in all competitions, while Havertz has also shone in cup competitions, and Cole has urged the club to be patient with both players, saying they could be ‘massive’ for Chelsea.

‘I think it is [Werner’s] he got off to a good start to his Chelsea career, “added Cole.

‘You can compare it to other big foreign imports, sometimes they come to this league [and] you have to understand that it may take time for them to settle down.

I think for him and Havertz it has too. Werner has probably adapted a little faster. They are two great players, I know it because you see the flashes.

“But I have no doubt that Werner and Havertz will be great players for Chelsea.”
