Chelsea youngster Marc Guehi to benefit from three first-team starts after impressive loan-out
According to The Athletic, Chelsea’s youngster Marc Guehi appears to be in contention to be the next youngster to make the move to the first team.
The young defender is currently on loan to championship Swansea City. Guehi has made 15 first-team appearances for the Swans, as they currently rank third in the English second division.
The player’s performances with the Welsh team have convinced Chelsea men that he has a future at Bridge.
Guehi, 20, is a product of the Blues youth academy. He made his senior debut for the club in September last year, in the Carabao Cup clash against Grimsby Town.
He made two appearances for our senior team before moving to Liberty Stadium this summer. It’s his second term on loan with Swansea after spending the second half of last season with them.
While the player will remain with the Swans until the end of the season, Chelsea will be keeping an eye on him. Guehi could be in action later tonight against Frank Lampard’s former Derby County.
According to the report, Guehi will join Lampard’s first-team squad for preseason training next summer, when a decision will be made whether he is ready or needs another loan period.
While Chelsea have five senior center-backs at their disposal, the future of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger is far from certain. Fikayo Tomori is also struggling to gain playing time. (h / t Express)
This could give Guehi the opportunity he needs to become a mainstay for Chelsea. Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma are currently the first choice pair at the rear.
However, the Brazilian is 36 years old and is not a long-term option. It remains to be seen if the Blues already have his replacement within their ranks in Guehi.
