NPP Secretary General John Boadu
The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) says that no amount of complaints by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will change the outcome of the 2020 elections.
According to the party, the NDC does not have any case of complaint about the results declared by the Electoral Commission (EC) and that if they have any problems with the declared results, they should use the appropriate channels to seek redress.
Speaking at a press conference held at the party headquarters on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, party general secretary John Boadu said it was surprising that the NDCs are now crying that they have been misled by the EC, knowing full well that the party lost the elections by a wide margin.
He said it was ridiculous for former President John Dramani Mahama, who is also the NDC’s standard bearer, to challenge the results of an election that he had lost by more than 500,000 votes, saying “no amount of complaints can change the results.”
Mahama acting
He said Mahama had not intentionally admitted defeat to win the sympathy of NDC supporters to retain him as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.
“We all know that he is playing by script,” Mr. Boadu described Mr. Mahama’s refusal to accept the outcome of the 2020 elections, noting that prior to the 2020 elections, Mr. Mahama had made his intentions to not accepting clear election results to the public.
He said the presidency “is not his (Mahama’s) exclusive right to possess” and wondered why Mr. Mahama thinks the EC should declare him the winner of the 2020 elections at all costs.
The PNP general secretary said that when President Akufo-Addo in 2012 felt misled by the election results, he sought redress in court and even when the court gave its verdict with which it did not agree, he accepted it as a true democrat.
For Boadu, Mahama is trying to mimic the behavior of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who had refused to admit defeat in the face of overwhelming defeat.
Thus, it has challenged the NDC to release its figures, leading the party to think that it won the 2020 election.
Mahama’s demand
The NDC flag bearer has called for an independent audit of the results of this year’s general election to help bring things to a close.
According to him, the Electoral Commission (EC) has shown great incompetence in the conduct of the elections, particularly in compiling the results of this year’s elections.
In an interview with Peter Clottey of Voice of America (VOA), Mr. Mahama said that if an independent audit is conducted on the results of the EC and the result proves that he had lost the election, he will accept it and walk away as he had done. . in the past.
