Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu

Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has rebuked the minority and opposition NDC for claims that the Election Commission colluded with the PNP to rig the elections in favor of President Akufo- Addo.

The NDC has rejected Akufo-Addo’s declaration as president-elect in the recently concluded elections. The NDC maintains that the elections were rigged.

In his welcoming speech in the room, the minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu, condemned the government’s moves to annex seats won by the NDC through brute force that led to some deaths. The Tamale South deputy advised that such attempts will be fiercely resisted.

But in reaction, Suame’s deputy, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, challenged the NDC to provide proof of his claims. According to him, the fact that the party does not support its claim with evidence can only mean that the results declared by the EC are authentic.

The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, for his part, instructed members to fulfill their obligations with diligence. He added that President Akufo-Addo, in accordance with article 67 of the 1992 constitution, will deliver a speech on the state of the nation before the dissolution of the 7th Parliament.

Meanwhile, the minority has pledged to physically behave as a majority in the eighth parliament, regardless of the number of seats awarded to the NDC by the EC.

NDC deputies are demanding at least 138 seats, including that of the controversial Techiman South, which will later leave the PNP with 136 and 1 independent.

Speaking to Starr News, North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who was dressed in black like his other colleagues in mourning what they call the death of the country’s democracy, revealed that the NDC already has a list of people to fill various leadership roles, including Speaker.

His Ajumako colleague Enyian Asiam and high-ranking finance committee member Cassiel Ato Forson argued that an NDC-led majority in the legislature will work with the Executive to ensure the smooth running of state affairs.

However, he warned against any attempt to take over the majority of the NDC.
