Nigerian artists Omah Lay and Tems have been arrested by the police for violating COVID-19 protocols.

According to the deputy spokesperson for the Kampala metropolitan police, “Nigerian artist Omah Lay has been arrested by Katwe police, venue manager Uno Dungu Ivan and events manager Prim Kasana are also in custody.”

He also added, “Temilade Openiyi Aka Ms Tems (Artist) was also arrested with her manager Muyiwa Awomiyi.”

According to TheTowerPost, the arrest of Omah Lay follows a public outcry by Ugandan artists who criticized the police for allowing international artists to give concerts while locals are denied.

“There is a lot of unfair play in entertainment and political circles. Some bars are open, some are not and they are struggling. Some concerts happen with crowds, some are not allowed, some politicians can have crowds, some cannot. This was last night, a concert with crowds and it went smoothly, ”said event organizer and media personality Douglas Lwanga with a picture of Omah Lay’s concert.

Lwanga organizes quarterly regional concerts called Purple Parties, but was forced to cancel everything after the suspension of all musical events by President Museveni.

Previously, renowned singer Bebe Cool had raised the same issue saying that she would do everything possible to make sure the concert doesn’t happen.

He raised the same problem citing that Ugandan artists are unable to hold any events and are struggling to make a living, but international artists continue to hold concerts without any sabotage.
