– Haruna Iddrisu has challenged the president of the EC to make public the results of Techiman South
– The minority leader says all attempts to get results have been futile
– NDC alleges that the EC rigged the elections in favor of John Mahama
The opposition NDC is challenging the electoral commission to make public copies of pink sheets of the official Techiman South Constituency results statement.
The NDC insists that it won the parliamentary race in the constituency where 2 people were shot and killed during the elections.
Minority leader Haruna Iddrisu says all attempts to get the commission to hand over the declaration sheets to the party have proved futile. He alleges that the fact that the commission did not produce the declared results is an indication that the commission manipulated the figures in favor of the national central government.
“I am challenging the president of the Election Commission, the regional director of the EC of Bono East and the teller of Techiman South to make public any results that they have declared for the constituency, we demand that in the name of transparency we know what NPP or NDC obtained from each other. We just can’t find the results. It means that their open house involves theft and disrespect for Ghanaian laws, ”he demanded.
Meanwhile, the supreme head of the Techiman Traditional Area in the East Bono Region, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw, has condemned the shooting incident that killed two people in the area during the recently concluded elections. He observed that under no circumstances should innocent citizens be shot and killed in the way that happened in Techiman.
As well. the presiding bishop has condemned the shooting incident at Techiman that resulted in the death of two party supporters during the elections. He has requested investigations into the matter.
“For this reason, we condemn the use of firearms against unarmed civilians and we ask that the deaths of people who wanted to protect their votes be duly investigated, because democracy is not a war,” he said.
The election results declared by the official returning to the president, Jean Mensa, confirm that John Mahama was unable to obtain 50 votes plus one. The results show that John Mahama got 6,214,889 while Nana Addo got 6,730,413 votes.
The opposition NDC has fiercely rejected the election results. John Mahama has described it as flawed and manipulated. Party supporters have also protested at the Electoral Commission headquarters on several occasions against the results.
Political scientists from the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana argue that forming a parallel government is unconstitutional. Such acts can even trigger treason crimes.
The news director of the newspaper crusader guide says that the results of the presidential and parliamentary elections have been gazette. He believes that only a Supreme Court ruling will be needed to reverse the election results.
In Joy News, the political commentator condemned John Mahama for not accepting the election results. He wonders why the same EC results that he accepted in the 206 elections are now being contested in 2020.
The international community has congratulated Ghana on the peaceful elections. A special convoy from the European Union (EU) also described the elections as generally peaceful.
Meanwhile, John Mahama has insisted that he will not accept the results of a “flawed election.” He told supporters at the party headquarters that he will seek all legitimate legal means to reverse the statement made by the president of the Election Commission, Jean Mensa.
