Contrary to unsubstantiated claims by the opposition Democratic National Congress (NDC) that the Essikado-Ketan constituency parliamentary elections were rigged in favor of veteran politician and lawyer, Hon. Ghartey, the election turned out to be credible and transparent.
The EC certified results for the Essikado-Ketan constituency showed that H.E. Ghartey obtained 26,701 valid votes cast. NDC parliamentary candidate Grace Ayensu-Danquah obtained 24,527 votes, while Ghana Trade Union Movement parliamentary candidate obtained 629 votes.
Even before the EC could declare the results, NDC and its parliamentary candidate for the Essikado-Ketan constituency, Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, went berserk with unsubstantiated and false accusations of alleged mass fraud that were said to it had been perpetuated by the NPP. They also took to social media to declare themselves the winners of the parliamentary race in the Essikado-Ketan constituency.
But it has emerged that the results declared by the EC for the Essikado-Ketan constituency were the true reflection of the will of the people, despite vigorous efforts by the opposition NDC to discredit the results.
A statement issued by the Essikado-Ketan constituency’s New Patriotic Party (PNP) has set the record straight, revealing in detail the violent and diabolical agenda spearheaded by the NDC prior to the statement of the results.
Since the declaration of poll results on December 7, 2020, the NDC has threatened legal action to overturn the victory of H.E. Ghartey.
But in the statement dated Saturday, December 12, 2020 and signed by his secretary, Thomas Amoah, the PNP affiliate of the Essikado-Ketan constituency, he gave an account of what happened on election day.
According to the statement, “we had received unconfirmed reports that the NDC was seeking to manipulate the elections, so we in the PNP were very alert on election day.”
The statement added that “the vote ended at 5 o’clock in the afternoon without our electoral agents reporting serious incidents in the different polling stations.
