The elected deputy for the Suame constituency has said that the New Patriotic Party (PNP) does not expect to lose a relatively high number of parliamentary seats as it did in the elections just ended.
Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu said that the outcome of the 2020 parliamentary elections “is going to make it work [in parliament] Herculean.”
“In general, it can have a negative impact on the conduct of business in Parliament,” he said.
His comments come after the PNP lost around 33 of its parliamentary seats to the NDC and an independent candidate, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, a former PNP member.
According to Mr. Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the NPP expected to maintain its majority in parliament with around 150 seats at least.
However, he is optimistic that this result will allow both sides to learn to collaborate in parliament.
He added that both parties will work together to elect a new spokesperson who takes into account the interest of all Ghanaians.
“We may have an opposition party chairman who is really for the sake of democratic governance, and we could live with that. But if we have a president who is rooted in his own party line, it becomes difficult to run a government, “he said.
