Real Madrid will have their biggest game in La Liga to this point this season on Saturday, days after winning their biggest Champions League game so far.

On Wednesday night at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium, Real Madrid was up to the task. They were reeling after last week’s loss to Shakhtar Donetsk, facing a potential Europa League banishment with Zinedine Zidane exiled in kind.

Rather than suffer humiliation once again in the Champions League, Real Madrid put on their most imposing performance of the tumultuous 2020-2021 season. They grabbed the ball, gave only one real chance to Borussia Monchengladbach and won 2-0 in a match that could have been 5-0 if not for Yann Sommer and his trusty left post.

The Whites must carry that momentum to Matchday 13 this Saturday night at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium against Atlético de Madrid. The rojiblancos are first in La Liga with six points between them and Real. And Atleti has a game on their hands.

Real Madrid defeated Atleti twice in 2020. First, they won on penalties in the Spanish Super Cup. Later, they defeated Los Rojiblancos in La Liga after Karim Benzema’s goal in the second half, with Vinicius Junior portraying the hero as a game-changing turnaround.

Let’s take a look at four things to keep in mind for El Derbi this weekend, as the match should have implications for the title.
