NDC should do more to win traditional votes in Ashanti region – KNUST speaker

Political scientist Dr. Samuel Adu Gyamfi says that the Democratic National Congress (NDC) has a chance of winning future elections if the party concentrates on winning more votes in traditional Ashanti areas.

The NDC appears to have increased its nominal votes in the Ashanti region in the 2020 elections.

These votes were from areas where the NDC has always been favored due to the demographics of the areas.

Speaking to David Akuetteh on Luv Fm’s “Luv in the morning” program, Dr. Adu-Gyamfi said that the 2020 election results have shown that the PNP is too strong in the Ashanti region.

For the NDC to have any chance in subsequent elections, the political scientist says the NDC would have to target votes from areas that have the most Asante voters.

In the 2020 election results declared by the Election Commission, the PNP had 1,795,824 while the NDC had 653,149 in the Ashanti region.

Dr. Adu Gyamfi said that the NDC can significantly increase the figure if they make a conscious effort to direct votes from other areas that vote predominantly for the NPP.

The NDC won 4 of 47 constituencies in the Ashanti region. These are Asawase, New Edubiase, Sekyere Afram Plains, and Ejura Sekyeredumase.
