The first presidential results of the 2020 elections declared by the president of the Electoral Commission and the subsequent correction of a mistake that the electoral management body said the president made, as regards the total number of valid presidential votes, are both farces, said the secretary general of the Democratic National Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has said.

Ms. Jean Mensa, who is the returning presidential election official, declared the results of a highly contested presidential race on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.

However, an EC statement after the statement said that the President “inadvertently used 13,433,573 as the total valid votes cast,” clarifying: “The total valid votes cast is 13,119,460,” adding that the correction in the figures “does not change the percentages indicated for each candidate and President’s statement.”

Of the total of 13,119,460 valid votes cast, the incumbent, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), obtained 6,730,587 votes representing 51.302 percent.

His closest contender, the presidential candidate of the main opposition Democratic National Congress, former President John Dramani Mahama, got 6,213,182 representing 47.359 percent.

President Akufo-Addo has therefore been given the go-ahead to rule for a second term.

However, Mr. Nketia said at a press conference on Thursday 10 December 2020 that: “In fact, immediately after our rejection, the Commission itself, for the first time in the history of this country, had to return to recalculate the results and have already provided figures to contradict their previous statement, which they claim to be the final statement. “

“So, let’s ask ourselves: of what value was the initial statement or the follow-up statement? Which of the results do we value? ” I ask.

“The truth of the matter is that neither of them represents reality and we want to warn you that the results of the presidential elections are declared in the polling stations and the main document is the pink sheets and if you doubt our resolution, let them know that we have our pink sheets ready. We are aware of Homeland Security’s efforts to belatedly turned around to try to manufacture pink sheets that fit the responses that have been given. They have announced the results and by their own calculations you realize that the sum total of the figures that they have given themselves are not consistent with the 100 percent they have indicated.

“Ladies and gentlemen, go take the figures that they themselves declared and add up the total number of voters in Techiman, which is 128,000; When this is added to the Electoral Commission’s own tally, you’ll find that even if we are to believe your initial statement, the figures will bring Nana Akufo-Addo below 50 percent. So the Electoral Commission, again, has tried to make fun of the eyes. Let them know that they will have to declare the actual results of the 2020 elections, ”he said.
