New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign manager Peter Mac Manu says the party’s leadership will review its system of parliamentary primaries.

His comment comes after at least 33 sitting NPP deputies lost their seats in the just-concluded elections. About 21 of them are ministers of state or vice ministers.

Speaking to JoyNews, Manu attributed the main parliamentary casualties to the consequences that occurred during the primaries earlier this year.

According to him, the party has learned many lessons from the recently concluded elections and will work to ensure that some of the mistakes they made do not happen again.

“The management of the primaries of the parliamentary elections is a concern that we have to look at. I think it is an area that concerns us. So we’ll see, ”he said.

The NPP Campaign Manager also added: “We set ourselves two objectives, one is to win in every aspect that has been achieved and the second was to obtain a gap of more than a million votes that was not achieved.

“So we’ll go and sit down, do an autopsy, and go over the things that we may not have done correctly.”

Apart from the 33 MPs who lost their seats, a total of 41 incumbent MPs who lost the PNP primaries earlier this year and therefore did not participate in Monday’s elections. Meanwhile, four PNP deputies are retiring.

In total, the ruling party will lose at least 78 legislators of its 169 in the next parliament. That means that around 50% of all NPP deputies do not return.
