Two defeated parliamentary candidates from the New Patriotic Party (PNP) have congratulated the candidates who defeated them in the December 7, 2020 elections.

Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye stood for reelection in Ledzokuku and Dr. Ibrahim Anyars, who contested the Tamale seat, lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidates of Ben Ayiku and Ibrahim Mutala Mohammed, respectively.

In the recently concluded parliamentary elections, Dr. Okoe Boye obtained 54,072 votes while the winner, Mr. Ayiku, obtained 55,938 votes. The other two candidates, Lord Adjetey of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) got 674, while Lucky Mensah of the National Democratic Party (NDP) got 137 votes.

In the case of Dr. Anyars, he got 33,627 votes, but that was not enough to beat Mr. Mohammed of the NDC, who had 41,196 while the candidate of the National People’s Convention (PNC), Abdul-Karim, got 179 .

In a statement, Dr. Okoe Boye also expressed his appreciation to his constituents for providing him with the opportunity to serve them over the past four years.

While also thanking God, Dr. Okoe Boye urged Ghanaians to help build the country together with or without political office because “it is our efforts now that will create the Ghana we want for our children and our children’s children. ”.

For his part, Dr. Anyars, who is the executive director of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO), also commended the candidate of the National People’s Convention (PNC), Mr. Mubarik Abdul-Karim, for participating in the democratic process to elect a deputy for the electoral district.

In a statement following the statement of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Mr. Mohammed, as the winner, Dr. Anyars said that the PNP was hopeful that the constituency would choose a development path by electing him as a deputy.

He said the party was quite disappointed in the result.

“The people of Tamale Central have spoken and we respect the democratic system,” he said.

He said that while touring the various polling stations last Monday, he saw the enthusiasm of voters to exercise their civic rights.

He said he was pleased with the fact that the electorate did their best to support a peaceful election.

“The atmosphere of peace in the constituency is once again a demonstration of my commitment to peaceful elections. For the second time in the history of the central Tamale constituency, we had a peaceful election, ”he said.

He expressed his gratitude to all the party faithful, friends, family, colleagues, and many volunteers who came out to help with the campaign.

“Many of you devoted valuable time and resources to contributing to the campaign and I sincerely thank each of you.

“I am deeply moved by the expression of confidence from the 18 electoral areas and I thank them from the bottom of my heart,” he said.
