Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that Thomas Partey will miss “the next few games” after limping in the Gunner’s loss to Tottenham in the North London derby last Sunday.
Partey received a starting role against the Spurs after a month off due to injury, but was replaced at halftime after taking another hit.
The Spanish coach has been accused of rushing the Ghanaian, but explains that the former Atlético de Madrid star made a full recovery before being named to the team for the Spurs game.
“He was injured in the same area, but not exactly in the same place as before,” Arteta said before Thursday’s Europa League group stage match against Dundalk.
“Yesterday they did an MRI, there is an injury there, he will miss the next games.”
“No, he did incredibly well, he was confident. We tried him three times and he had no symptoms,” Arteta replied to a question about Partey rushing back.
“But in soccer there are many unpredictable actions. He fell to the ground, got his knee stuck, after he needed to stretch and get up. He immediately put a lot of stress on a similar area and felt it again.
