Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, in an attempt to quell the mounting tension, has written advice to former President John Dramani Mahama, who is the presidential candidate for the opposition Democratic National Congress.
According to him, the former president, while ensuring he gets his due, must also strive to maintain his reputation as the peaceful and tolerant leader that he is known to be.
Manasseh’s letter follows recent statements by John Mahama suggesting that the NDC is prepared to resist any attempts by the Election Commission and the ruling New Patriotic Party to rig the elections.
In a Facebook post warning the former president about his actions while awaiting the final statement from the EC, Manasseh wrote among other things; “If the elections don’t go your way, don’t be pressured to tarnish your reputation as an extremely tolerant and peaceful leader. Do not misunderstand. I am not suggesting that you should tolerate injustice in order to impress others. “
He added that the former president must use the appropriate channels to seek redress in this period; “If you have reasonable suspicions of voter fraud and a reasonable amount of evidence to support the suspicions, channel them to the appropriate places. Those neighborhoods, no matter how flawed they may be, are certainly better than violence. “
Manasseh is convinced that John Mahama still has a chance in the upcoming election year if he maintains his reputation this year.
“There is 2024. You will still be younger than the age of your main contender when he first won. You have put up an impressive and admirable fight in this race. There are lessons in this choice for you. Your opponents. And Ghanaians, ”he wrote.
While the top two parties in the race have turned to press conferences to vent and address their issues, the NDC has been accused of inciting violence by asking its supporters to take to the streets to celebrate.
Meanwhile, the president of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, has said that the commission will declare the result of the presidential elections on the closing day, Wednesday, December 9, 2020.

Dear John Dramani Mahama,
If the elections don’t go your way, don’t be pressured to tarnish your reputation as an extremely tolerant and peaceful leader.
Do not misunderstand. I’m not suggesting that you should tolerate injustice in order to impress others.
A man, our wise elders say, may swallow phlegm for fear of offending others, but no sane man ingests poison for the same reason. So I’m not saying that you should allow yourself to be fooled into maintaining the image of peace and tolerance.
If you have reasonable suspicions of voter fraud and a reasonable amount of evidence to support the suspicions, channel them to the appropriate quarters.
Those neighborhoods, faulty as they are, are certainly better than violence.
Violence is like a torrential rain. It doesn’t just fall on your enemy’s roof. There is 2024. You will still be younger than the age of your top contender when he first won.
You have put up an impressive and admirable fight in this race. There are lessons in this choice for you. Your opponents. And Ghanaians.
A man does not burn his barn because his wife has deprived him of food. There is a tomorrow, JM. And you have a good chance of winning the next election with ease.
Think about this. Think about the future. And the generations that admire you.
Think of Ghana.
The lion and the antelope may have their differences, but neither of them would set fire to the forest that protects them.
Think about this before your next speech. He passed. Or action.
Your friend,
Manasseh Azure Awuni.
Dear John Dramani Mahama,
If the choice doesn’t go the way you want it, don’t be pushed into dirtying your …
