“He’s going to be a Chelsea player”

Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour claimed his third Man of the Match award in just seven starts for the club last night in a 1-1 draw with Krasnodar.

Once again, he was pulling the strings in Chelsea’s midfield, even after being out of the game for many months due to a serious injury. But he came back last night like he had never been away, and now he’s given his boss Frank Lampard another selection headache.

How do all these highly talented players fit into your usual starting eleven? Because that is where you would expect to see Gilmour from now on, he has placed himself among the best in the club and cannot be ignored.

Lampard knows his future is as a Chelsea player, and has been talking about Gilmour’s path to becoming a regular at the club. I’d say Gilmour is already well and truly at the end of that road!

As reported by the Chelsea website, Lampard said:

“I thought Billy was outstanding. The way he played today and how he trains, I see him growing with us. He’s going to be a Chelsea player so it’s just about making sure the path is the right one for him.

“He did that road well last season and then got injured at the wrong time, but playing like he did today, he has a lot to offer us.”
