Minority leader Haruna Iddrisu says he still defends his claim that the government is buying Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the Electoral Commission (EC).
In an interview with Joseph Opoku Gakpo of Joy News, the Tamale South MP said he only quoted the EC Director of Elections, Dr. Dr Serebuor Quaicoe.
According to him, Dr. Quaicoe revealed in the Joy FM news archive that the Commission has received enough PPE from the government to enable it to carry out the registration of new voters.
“I just don’t comment on issues and I don’t comment on issues that Dr. Serebour Quaicoe of the electoral commission was quoting,” Iddrisu said.
“So who is misleading the people, me, Harruna Iddrisu, or Dr. Serebour of the electoral commission?” he asked.
Speaking at a minority press conference on Thursday, May 7, the minority leader, among other statements, criticized the government for supplying PPE to EC officials, while health workers lacked the same.
The outspoken MP described this as “troubling and shocking.”
However, responding to the legislator through a statement on Monday, the Commission denied and dismissed the claim.
The Commission said “it is concerned that the Leader of the Minority Party in Parliament presents information of this nature without corroborating its authenticity.”
