Black Satellites boss Abdul Karim Zito awaits the opening match of the competition on Wednesday
Ghana has revenge on their minds as they face arch-rival Nigeria in their first match of the 2020 Wafu B Nations Cup in Benin, says head coach Abdul Karim Zito.
The Black Satellites will face the Flying Eagles at the Stade de Gaules in Porto Novo in the sub-regional championship.
While Ghana drew on matchday one of the Group B match schedule as the group consists of just three teams, Nigeria and Ivory Coast settled for a 1-1 draw.
In their last match in the tournament two years ago, Ghana lost 4-2 to Nigeria.
“There is a great rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria. So, at all costs, we should make amends. [for the last defeat]”Zito told Footballmadeinghana.
“In football sometimes people say win, lose or draw. It is not about drawing, winning, drawing or amending. We will have the opportunity to amend. Ghana has another chance to amend from the first 4-2 [defeat] they gave us.
“[Nigeria] is a team that is not tactically solid compared to Cote D’Ivoire, but [our chances] it all depends on the team we are going to play against. Perhaps his motivating factor against Ivory Coast is not the same against Ghana.
“I won’t take it [their threat] the way i saw it there [against Cote d’Ivoire] but I will also build my own self against what I saw. We need a two-game win to reach the semi-final. “
The Wafu B Championship serves as a qualifier for the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, with the two finalists in Benin securing participation tickets for the continental meeting.
The African event, in turn, will serve as a qualifier for the 2020 Fifa U20 World Cup, the four semi-finalists are set to represent the continent at the global meeting in Indonesia.
“We need Ghanaians to pray for us and continue to support us,” said Ghana captain Daniel Afriyie.
“Our training sessions have been intense and it shows that we are very serious. You must support us and we will give you victory on Wednesday.
