The main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has challenged the presidential results certified by the Electoral Commission (EC) for Adansi-Asokwa in the Ashanti region.

Nurudeen Abass, regional communications director for Ashanti, NDC, said the figure they had on their pink sheet after collecting the results in the constituency was 17,712 for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and 9,892 for the NDC. .

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Kumasi, after the Party submitted a petition to the EC, the NDC Regional Director of Communications said his figures contravened EC-certified presidential results, which they had the NPP registering 19,519 while the NDC had 10,560.

According to the opposition party, discrepancies in the figures should be resolved as soon as possible to improve the credibility of the 2020 general election.

Mr. Benjamin Bano-Bio, the EC Regional Director, reacting to the Party’s concerns, challenged the leaders to provide any evidence to that effect if they have done so.

According to him, the certified results had been signed by all party agents, making the NDC’s claim without merit.

According to EC records, the constituency registered 30,630 valid votes out of a total of 31,342 votes cast, while 712 were rejected.
