Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly set to fight to sign AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie for £ 45m.
The 23-year-old Ivorian has been one of the standout players in Milan’s excellent start to the Serie A standings, which sees him five points ahead of his city rival, Inter, on top after of 10 games.
Italian outlet Calciomercato reports that both North London rivals are interested in Kessie, whose current contract with San Siro runs through June 2022.
Milan values Kessie in the region of £ 40 million to £ 45 million, but is willing to tie him to a new contract as quickly as possible.
Milan’s surprising start to the season after years of poor performance has seen Kessie’s value practically doubled from around the £ 23 million mark in the summer, according to the report.
He has formed an impressive partnership in midfield with Ismael Bennacer, the Algerian who made it to Arsenal’s youth ranks but only made one first-team appearance.
Kessie has scored four goals and contributed three assists in 17 games so far this season and teams in North London believe he has the attributes to take on the Premier League.
Milan initially signed Kessie on a two-year loan from Atalanta in 2017 before signing him directly in 2019 for £ 25.4 million.
The Rossoneri have transformed this season under coach Stefano Pioli after finishing sixth in the Serie A standings in 2019-20.
They have won eight and drawn two of their league matches so far and have secured qualification for the round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League.
Milan have only lost one game so far, a 3-0 home loss to Lille in Europe. A 4-2 home win over Celtic last week secured them a place in the round of 32 of the competition and they completed their group stage with a trip to Sparta Prague on Thursday.
