CODEO records 235 incidents from 4,000 polling stations

The coalition of National Election Observers (CODEO) in the early hours of Tuesday said that it has registered 235 incidents from the 4,000 polling stations where it had deployed observers

A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency and issued by Mr. Albert Kofi Arhin, National Coordinator of CODEO in Accra, said that at the close of the polls, five main cases included intimidation / harassment, violation of health protocols and Covid-19 security, violence of various kinds, unauthorized persons in polling stations and malfunction of some biometric devices.

The statement said that CODEO recorded 43 cases of intimidation or harassment, 40 cases of violation of Covid-19 health and safety protocols, 25 cases of violence, 24 cases of unauthorized persons in polling stations and 21 cases of devices biometric verification not working properly.

He said that CODEO also recorded 16 cases of suspension of voting, nine cases of non-opening of polling stations, eight cases of polling stations running out of materials, six cases of violation of voting or counting procedures, four cases each one of destruction or theft of electoral materials and eligible voters not authorized to vote.

The statement said it recorded four cases of vote buying / bribery, two cases of ineligible persons allowed to vote, one case of ballot filling, one case of excessive voting, one case of polling station closings before 1700 hours and 26 other incidents. .

The statement listed the regions where some of these incidents occurred as Ahafo, Ashanti, Central, Eastern, Greater Accra, Savannah and North East.

CODEO called on Ghanaians to remain calm, abide by the law, abide by Covid-19 protocols and be measured in their reaction to the results that are announced in polling stations, electoral districts and national collection centers.
