Without Edinson Cavani and without Anthony Martial, so I hope we see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer use Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood as two forwards.
With Bruno Fernandes behind them, that’s not the worst injury-induced lineup. Needing only a draw to qualify, I’m backing Manchester United to at least get a goal at Red Bull Arena.
RB Leipzig know all about Rashford from the way he destroyed them from the bench in the reverse game at Old Trafford. He was introduced in the 63rd minute and had a full-time hat-trick.
But this is a great night for Greenwood. The 19-year-old opened the scoring in that 5-0 takedown in October. He exploded between two Leipzig center-backs and found the far corner with a first shot with his left foot. That is its great strength. One chance and it can hurt.
His finish against West Ham at the weekend was also instinctive, and Greenwood has to catch the bull by the horns against Leipzig. He has lost some form this season, as Solskjaer had to answer questions about problems off the field at times, but what an opportunity for him.
It was remarkable to read the quotes from Paul Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, on the eve of this season-defining clash, declaring that his client’s United career was over.
What a time to drop a bomb when Solskjaer would want Pogba to focus on the task at hand. He missed class and I look forward to seeing an impressive performance from the Frenchman in midfield on Tuesday night.
This is going to be a great test. Leipzig is not stupid. They have won all five Bundesliga home games this season. They held Bayern Munich to a 3-3 draw at the Allianz Arena at the weekend.
One sad day in Istanbul Basaksehir left United in this precarious position in Group H. Now they must rise to the challenge.
