Two people were injured after unidentified men opened fire on constituencies at a polling station in the Awutu Senya East constituency in the Central Region.

Speaking to JoyNews’ Bernice Abu-Baidoo, correspondent Kofi Agyei said the perpetrators targeted NDC parliamentary candidate Phyllis Koryoo Okunor.

However, his attempts to harm the candidate were unsuccessful.

A witness told Joy News that the men had arrived in a black Land Cruiser pickup. They stopped in front of a KIA saloon occupied by their victims and began shooting.

“The men were using AK47. I know that from what the police wear every day, it’s similar to that. “

“We had to run for our lives. We did not know where to go and as we speak now there is confusion everywhere, “he said.

Unfortunately, two out of five people in the KIA saloon were injured.

JoyNews’ Kofi Agyei stated that the injured people have been sent to hospital.

Meanwhile, due to the incident, many voters have left the center for fear of being shot.

In a press release, the police stated that preliminary investigations show that the gunmen pretended to be seeking information on the occupants of the KIA car.

They explained that the case is currently under investigation, urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to report it to the police.
