The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that it has identified some of its officials who have been tampering with the ballots in the ongoing 2020 elections in the electoral districts of Awutu Senya West and Bawku Central in the Central and Upper East regions respectively .

The EC says it has consequently removed the officers who were allegedly tampering with the presidential ballot.

They were reportedly tearing up the paper in such a way that the first candidate on the paper did not appear on the voter’s ballot.

The incidents that the EC describes as “isolated” occurred in the electoral districts of Awutu Senya West and Bawku Central in the Central and Upper East regions respectively.

“The information that reaches the Commission indicates that there have been isolated cases of alterations of the presidential electoral ballots in some polling stations in the electoral districts of Awutu Senya West and Bawku Central,” the EC said in a statement published in Twitter.

The EC said that, working with the police, it has identified the suspected officers and removed them from their posts pending further investigations.

“The general public is informed that the presidential ballot for the 2020 General Elections has twelve (12) candidates. In order for a properly thumb-printed ballot to be considered valid and counted, all presidential candidates must be on the ballot.

“The Commission pleads with all its staff and field officials to allow the truth to guide them and for integrity to preserve them as they continue with this important exercise. We also urge agents of political parties and candidates and the general public to be vigilant in guaranteeing free, fair freedom and transparent elections, “the EC added.
