The Cameroonian forward found the net twice when the Kids beat the Maroons in Sunday’s Ligue 1 clash that produced two red cards.

Karl Toko Ekambi scored a double when Olympique Lyon silenced Metz 3-1 in Sunday’s Ligue 1 match.

The Cameroonian international scored a double in the second half when the Kids left Stade Saint-Symphorien with all points at stake.

Unbeaten in their last nine games in all competitions, Rudi Garcia’s men faced the Maroons, who aimed to banish memories of their home loss to Brest in their last outing.

The visitors lived up to the pre-match hype by launching a relentless attack after the referee’s whistle blast.

Even so, it was the hosts who had a golden opportunity to take the lead after Senegal’s Opa Nguette was brought down in the area by on loan Juventus defender Mattia De Sciglio.

However, goalkeeper Anthony Lopes became an inspirational moment to save Farid Boulaya’s penalty shot.

In seventeen minutes of play, Memphis Depay gave Lyon a well-deserved lead after hitting a Toko Ekambi shot past goalkeeper Alexandre Oukidja.

Despite the efforts of Frederic Antonetti’s team to produce a comeback, the first half ended 1-0 in favor of the giants of Groupama Stadium.

Things looked bright for the visitors when Toko Ekambi doubled Lyon’s lead within two minutes of the second half, sending an assist from Houssem Aouar into the net.

The 28-year-old found the net for the second time at the hour mark with a cold finish after Depay released him.

In the 75th minute, Boulaya reduced the local deficit after firing an assist from Nguette from close range.

Sadly, his ambition to come back was dampened in the 87th minute after referee Karim Abed sent off Ghanaian international John Boye for elbowing Brazilian defender Marcelo.

At the stroke of 90 minutes, Lyon was also reduced to 10 men when substitute Rayan Cherki received his marching orders for serious foul play.

After the final whistle, it was the Kids who reigned supreme by moving to third place in the French top flight record after accumulating 26 points in 13 games played so far in the 2020-21 campaign, while the Maroons occupy the 13th position with 16 points from the same number of games.
