The Ashanti Regional President’s Office of the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP) has laughed at reports that its president, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, alias President Wontumi, has been arrested by police for allegedly printing ballot papers.
The Regional President’s Office says that it is not true that President Wontumi has been arrested for circulating on social media, explaining that the incident occurred in 2016 after he (President Wontumi) led the police to arrest some elements of the then National Democratic ruler. Congress (NDC) secretly fingerprinting fake ballots for the party at a hotel located in the TUC, a suburb of Kumasi.
In a statement issued and signed by special assistant to the regional president, Andy Owusu, the party noted that “this is yet another tactic by the NDC to divert attention from its impending defeat on Monday. The incident occurred in 2016 and was discovered through the intelligence of the Regional President “
The statement further noted that “we ask everyone to treat this video with all the contempt it deserves, as it is old.”

STATEMENT BY PNP REGIONAL PRESIDENT ASHANTI ON AN ALLEGED VIDEO CIRCULATING ON SOCIAL MEDIA
The attention of the Office of the Ashanti Regional President of the ruling New Patriotic Party has been brought to the attention of an alleged video circulating on social media suggesting that our Regional President, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, alias President Wontumi, has been arrested for allegedly printing a ballot papers in a hideout in Kumasi.
We unequivocally wish that President Wontumi has not been detained or made any printing of ballot papers as speculation.
The fact is that said incident that was shared on social networks by well-known members of the opposition Democratic National Congress occurred in 2016.
Rather, it was President Wontumi, later in the opposition, who led the police to discover a clandestine operation by some elements of the then-ruling NDC who secretly fingerprinted the voting ballots in a hotel located in TUC, a suburb of Kumasi.
Therefore, we urge the public to treat the information with the utmost contempt it deserves.
Our Regional President is currently in Ejura requesting votes for the ruling party.
Signed
Andy Owusu
Special Assistant to the Ashanti Regional President, NPP.
