The campaign coordinator of the New Patriotic Party (PNP) says that corruption is no longer a big problem before the next elections because the Akufo-Addo government has fought it to public satisfaction.
Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid at a press conference referred to recent polls conducted by the Coalition of National Election Observers (CODEO) and the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana, which indicated that the majority of Ghanaians are less interested in corruption.
This, according to him, indicates that President Akufo-Addo is fighting the threat that was deeply entrenched during the Mahama era.
“In all the surveys that have been conducted by all the renowned research institutions and democratic organizations in our country, including the CDD, the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana, none of those surveys show that corruption is the most important in the minds of the people of Ghana.
“Now, we want to remind the people of Ghana and candidate Mahama that the reason that corruption was a central problem in 2016 and it is not in 2020 is because it is not a palpable path of the current governance structure and system.” he explained.
Dr Hamid, who is also the Development Minister for Zongo and the city center, also confirmed that the government has started efforts to have the country’s share of Airbus compensation repatriated to Ghana.
