The Ghanaian elections on 7 December saw for the first time the increase in the number of women after the presidential elections.
The 2020 vote obtains three presidential candidates and one vice-presidential candidate from the main opposition party, from [NDC] Democratic National Congress.
The first time a major political party elects a female candidate and if the opposition wins, that is, Ghana elects the first vice president.
Meet the women who have a chance to become the sixth leader of the West African nation [Ghana] since the fourth republic for 1992.
Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings
Mrs. Rawlings is a Ghanaian politician who will be the former First Lady of Ghana, wife of the late former President of Ghana, Jerry Rawlings.
I was born to a 72-year-old politician on November 17, 1948.
She attended Ghana International School before moving to Achimota School, where she met her husband Jerry John Rawlings.
The two were married for more than 40 years before former Ghanaian leader Jerry Rawlings died in November 2020 after a minor illness.
Nana Konadu studied Art and Textiles for the University of Science and Technology and became a student leader of her residency at Africa Hall.
Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings became First Lady when her husband briefly became Head of State in 1979. She returned to power when her husband also returned to power in 1981 and she was in charge until 2001.
She will be president of the Women’s Movement December 31, 1982.
The Democrat elected her as her party’s first vice president for 2009 during the second term of her term in the Democratic National Congress (NDC) to the post under President John Atta Mills.
Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings once challenged Atta Mills to become the party’s standard bearer during the 2011 congress.
By 2016, she became the first woman to run for the presidency of Ghana and became the first female president of Ghana if she says she won, but got 0.16% of the total votes she got.
Madam Rawlings submits her nomination forms to lead her party, the National Democratic Party (NDP) for the 2020 general election.
Brigitte Dzogbenuku
Brigitte is a former Miss Ghana and political woman who is currently a presidential candidate for the Progressive People’s Party.
He earned a BA in modern languages from the University of Ghana.
Madame Brigitte won the Miss Ghana beauty pageant in 1990.
Brigitte Dzogbenuku says that what inspired her to launch the race to become president of Ghana because she wants to impact people’s lives.
“I realize that I say that I am in a position to have an impact on people’s lives. I am a learner and I grow up to become a mentor.”
“I want young women to be empowered, to stand firm, to maintain their life, to help the whole pipo.”
Akua Donkor
Akua Donkor, a 68-year-old politician, ran for the presidency of Ghana with the candidacy of the Ghana Freedom Party.
She comes from the Ashanti region of Ghana, reports say that Madam Akua did not receive any formal education, but she did not stop pointing to the sky.
The Democrat chooses Madam Donkor as Herman’s Assemblywoman.
Her ambition to be president began during the 2012 elections when she ran to run as an independent candidate, but the electoral commission did not allow her.
Ms. Donkor says her approach is to make education free from primary to secondary level and also to increase import in taxes to allow people to import more.
Aside from Nana Rawlings and Brigitte and Akua Donkor, a woman to watch out for during the upcoming elections is Jane Naana Agyemang, a woman who could become Ghana’s first female vice president.

Jane na from the vice presidential candidate and running mate of John Dramani Mahama in the Democratic National Congress party.
She is on her way to becoming Ghana’s first vice president.
She was Minister of Education with John Dramani Mahama from February 2013 to 2017.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, and the first Vice Chancellor of a Ghanaian state university.
She held different academic positions such as Head of the English Department, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Director of Adehye Hall, Valco Trust Fund Post-Graduate Hostel, and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Research.
If John Dramani Mahama wins the 2020 Ghana presidential election, he will resign from his post, Madam Jane will become Ghana’s vice president from January 2021.
