ACCRA, Dec.3 (Xinhua) – Football matches in Ghana will continue to be played behind closed doors due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the country, Ghana’s Presidential Health Advisor Nsiah Asare said on Tuesday.
He said the government is committed to protecting lives, so it will not relax the ban on playing football in practically empty stadiums.
The representative of Ghana in the Champions League of the African Football Confederation (CAF), Kumasi Kotoko SC, tried to request the permission of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) so that his fans could watch his match against the Mauritanian team, FC Nouadibou, last weekend.
“We are trying to protect people’s lives here. We are doing all of this to make sure we are protected and kept safe. Once the cases are under control, things will change,” he told local media.
