Liverpool has decided not to return to full training following the latest government guidelines on Sunday night.

The Reds have been away from their Melwood training camp since they voluntarily suspended operations on Friday, March 13.

However, the base partially reopened last week, with a maximum of three players at a time invited to use the pitches.

Liverpool are willing to allow their players a chance to improve their core fitness after going two months without a game, but club officials insisted on the need to maintain social distance during trips to Melwood.

There were some suggestions that Premier League leaders could properly reopen their training base after Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s public address on Sunday night.

Johnson announced some key changes to the closing restrictions over the weekend, warning that certain sectors could now return to work.

“Now we must emphasize that anyone who cannot work from home, for example, those in construction or manufacturing, should be actively encouraged to go to work,” the prime minister said in the Sunday night address to the nation.

However, ECHO understands that Liverpool has decided not to reopen for the time being and will follow the official protocol provided by the Premier League.

The 20 Premier League clubs will meet via video link Monday morning as they continue their talks to develop a plan to end a season in which the Reds have 25 clear points.

And Liverpool have decided to continue their current training plans while waiting for the green light from football authorities, rather than following the latest government guidelines.

It means that most of the Jurgen Klopp team will continue to stick to their individual training regimes that were delivered by the club when they decided to shut down Melwood almost two months ago.

The Reds have met for group sessions with Zoom’s coaching staff, but most of the physical work has been done only by the players.

Liverpool need just six points from the past nine games to secure their first league title in 30 years.
