The Electoral Commission (EC) says it is satisfied with the progress of the “Special Voting” exercise that is being carried out at 311 designated voting centers in 275 constituencies across the country ahead of the December 7 general elections.
The Commission said initial reports collected across the country indicated that voting in many polling stations began on time, logistics available on time, and the exercise thus far has been peaceful and smooth.
Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, Vice Chair of the Election Commission in charge of Corporate Services, speaking with the Ghana News Agency, said the Commission was happy that the Biometric Verification Devices (BVD) were working satisfactorily.
He said that a BDV machine could check between 50 and 65 people in an hour, and said: “We are very happy with the turn of events now and we hope it continues to the end. We are convinced that it will be the same next week ”.
Dr. Asare commended Commission officials for devising innovative ways to ensure strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols.
A total of 12 presidential candidates compete for the votes of 17,029,972 Ghanaians to be elected President of the State for the next four years.
These are Mr. Alfred Kwame Walker, independent candidate, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Christian Kwabena Andrews, of the Union Party of Ghana, Mrs. Brigitte Akosua Dzogbenuku of the Progressive People’s Party and former President John Dramani Mahama, National Democratic Congress.
Others are; Ms. Akua Donkor from the Ghana Freedom Party, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings from the National Democratic Party, Dr. Hassan Ayariga from the All Peoples Congress, Mr. Ivor Kobina Greenstreet from the People’s Convention Party.
The rest are; Mr. Henry Herbert Lartey of the Great Consolidated People’s Party, Mr. Percival Kofi Akpaloo, Liberal Party of Ghana and Mr. David Asibi Ayindenaba Apasera of the National People’s Convention.
