Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been told that he must find a way to bring Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba into his squad. That’s the opinion of BBC Sport expert Garth Crooks, who believes that Fernandes has been a beacon of inspiration for the Red Devils.

United stars Fernandes, Cavani and Pogba must be involved in the first team in some shape or form, Crooks says.

It comes after the Red Devils mounted a remarkable comeback against Southampton on Sunday.

Solskjaer’s men had slipped to a 2-0 deficit at halftime with the match looking bleak and another week of pressure on the way.

But the Norwegian signed Cavani at halftime to completely transform the game, with the Uruguayan scoring twice and getting an assist to see United win 3-2.

That included a last-gasp win by former Paris St-Germain leaders to send United into the top half of the Premier League.

In addition to Cavani, Fernandes put on a now-typical display of brilliance for visitors scoring and attending once again.

The Portugal international has not been at the club for a year, but must now be declared one of its most important players in recent history.

It remains to be seen where he leaves Pogba, and the Frenchman is once again lost through injury.

In his day, the Frenchman is unplayable and enjoyed his best football at the club during the first months of Solskjaer’s reign.

But with Donny van de Beek performing brilliantly for the Red Devils, Pogba’s long-term future seems unclear.

However, Crooks believes that Solskjaer would do better to include the World Cup winner, whose undoubted talent has not been seen enough at Old Trafford.

He told BBC Sport: “If it hadn’t been for Bruno Fernandes’ determination, Manchester United would be licking his wounds.

“The Portugal international was once again the inspiration for United, leading an impressive comeback at Southampton.

“With five minutes to go there was only one team that was going to win this game, and it was not the home team.

“The more the Saints began to lose steam, the more pressure United began.

“If United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can put Paul Pogba in the right frame of mind and play with Fernandes and Edinson Cavani, anything is possible.”

The Red Devils will face PSG in the Champions League with a chance to qualify for the next round as they only need one point from their last two games.
