Lobos forward Raúl Jiménez is conscious and responding to treatment after being carried out on a stretcher following a head clash with Arsenal defender David Luiz during Sunday’s game at Emirates Stadium.

Jiménez received oxygen after the accidental union and was eventually replaced by Fabio Silva.

The head clash occurred early in the game and resulted in a prolonged delay of about 10 minutes while paramedics and medical personnel treated both players. There is cautious optimism about Jiménez’s condition.

Luiz was able to continue, however, albeit with his head bandaged, with the score 0-0 at the time of the incident. He went to see how Jiménez was before returning to the field.

The official Twitter account of the Wolves in Spain published to thank those who sent good wishes for their forward.

“We want to thank everyone for their messages of support for the injury of Raúl Jiménez,” the statement said.

“Our medical team is closely monitoring the situation.”

The Headway brain injury association charity also offered its support to Jiménez on social media, writing: “All our thoughts are with Raúl Jiménez, his family and teammates at this time.

“There is no doubt that there will be a lot more talk about concussion suspensions in football, but right now let’s focus our thoughts on Raúl.”

Coady: Jiménez awake and breathing

Wolves captain Conor Coady said everyone’s thoughts on the field were with Jimenez and David after their horrible butt-heads.

Coady headed up immediately behind Jiménez and Luiz and admitted both sides were shaken by the collision.

“It was something you knew right away, we hope David Luiz is fine too, it was a horrible head butt,” Coady said.

“This happens in football, but you don’t like to watch it and I think both teams came out and played well.

“It was a difficult thing that happened. He is with the right people and that is the most important thing, but we just hope and pray that everything is okay because he is who we are thinking about now.

“I was in front, right behind him, so I jumped with them too and you hear him and when they fell, he was on their side. It’s something we never want to see.

“He’s in the hospital and by all accounts he’s awake and breathing. The first question we asked when we entered was’ how is Raúl? It is important that we remember the game now, but the most important thing is that we fix Raúl. “

Nuno: Jiménez will have a scan but is alert

Nuno Espirito Santo was also cautiously optimistic that Jiménez’s condition was improving, adding that he is in the hands of medical experts and will undergo tests.

The Wolves head coach also expressed pride in the way his team was able to absorb the effects of witnessing his teammate retreat on a stretcher and put on a winning performance.

“He’s doing a scan now but he’s aware, he’s well within the severity of the problem, of course,” Nuno said.

“Because of the reaction of the teammates, of everyone, you start to hear the red code. When they say it is red it is because it is serious. It was a bad moment for everyone.

“Both teams and both players, the Arsenal players are worried about him and we wish everything is well.

“He speaks, he is aware, but now we have to make a proper assessment but he is in good hands.

“I’m very proud today, I always am, but especially today because this team showed heart, will, faith. It was really good to see.”

Testing of additional permanent concussion substitutes could begin in January, game lawmakers announced.

The Board of the International Football Association (IFAB) said its Concussion Expert Group (CEG) had met on Wednesday and said it was now preparing the ground for competitions to test new protocols.

“Members (of the expert group) recommended further consultations, working with FIFA’s medical subdivision and other stakeholders, to facilitate trials to begin from January 2021 for any competition that is interested in participating,” it read in a statement on the IFAB website.

The statement also said: “The CEG emphasized again that the protection of the players is the main objective and that a clear and uniform approach is needed, which can operate effectively at all levels of the game.

For this reason, the group agreed that applying the philosophy of ‘if you have doubts, get them out’ would be the best solution to safeguard the health of footballers ”.
