The Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) criticized the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana for a recent poll that predicted a one-touch victory for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to the University, 51.7% of Ghanaians say they will vote for Akufo-Addo.
He also stated that 40.4% of Ghanaians say they will vote for John Dramani Mahama, while 1.4% say they will vote for the Ghana Union Movement (GUM).
Of more than 11,000 nationwide, 52% of those surveyed say they will keep their members of Parliament.
The researchers say that 80% of those surveyed said they would vote based on the campaign message.
But ASEPA in its statement said that the published survey is false.
“Earlier this month, a Facebook post by one Edudzi Tamakloe suggesting that the Department has conducted some surveys and was filing them was brought to the attention of the department.
“The department agreed to issue a rebuttal or disclaimer that was drafted.
The disclaimer was delivered to the Head of Department to issue on behalf of the department. The Disclaimer stated categorically that the Department has NOT conducted any surveys this year.
“The Head of the Department did not publish this rebuttal that had been agreed by all the members of the Department and the letter drafted was on November 1, 2020.
“Only for the same department head who had drafted and signed those rebuttals by November 24th issue an invitation to the department members who have conducted a survey on the 2020 elections and are invited to participate in the dissemination of the information . “

ASEPA EXPOSES UNIVERSITY OF GHANA ON FALSE SURVEYS
We have called you here to demonstrate how some professors from the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana have conspired to launch bogus polls clearly intended to influence the outcome of the 2020 elections.
First of all, we want to state categorically that the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana has NOT conducted any survey on the 2020 elections.
The polls that were released today are the exclusive work of a Dr. Owusu Mensah who has been hired to publish fake polls to mislead the public.
Earlier this month, a Facebook post by one Edudzi Tamakloe suggesting that the Department has conducted some surveys and was filing them came to the attention of the department.
The department agreed to issue a rebuttal or disclaimer that was drafted.
The disclaimer was delivered to the Head of Department to issue on behalf of the department. The Disclaimer stated categorically that the Department has NOT conducted any surveys this year.
The Head of the Department did not publish this rebuttal that had been agreed by all the members of the Department and the letter was written on November 1, 2020.
Only for the same department head who had drafted and signed those rebuttals by November 24 issue an invitation to department members who have conducted a survey on the 2020 elections and are invited to participate in the dissemination of the information.
This situation has seriously angered many of the department’s professors who feel the name of the University and, in fact, the department was being used for personal gain!
It is important to bring these issues that are currently occurring in the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana to the attention of the media and, for that matter, the public because it limits the integrity of the main University of this country.
That the individual members of the university can initiate a research activity in a private capacity and wish to post the results on behalf of the university.
Second, what serious academic institution would decide to publish a poll at this critical hour leading up to an important election?
We believe that these actions of Dr. Owusu Mensah and the Head of the Department of the Department of Political Science cannot go unpunished for attempting to publicly ridicule the name of the university.
We demand that the Disciplinary Committee of the University initiate immediate investigations on this matter and sanction the professors who are complicit in this brutal attempt to defraud the public.
We are also preparing to request the Department of Criminal Investigations to initiate criminal investigations into the matter as it is a classic case of Academic Fraud perpetuated by these speakers.
