President Nana Akufo-Addo has said that despite the criticism leveled at his government for its purpose to build a National Cathedral, he will go ahead and ensure that the building is built for the glory of God.
“… By Christ who strengthens us, the National Cathedral will be built for the glory and honor of God. Amen!”
Recently, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams said that he could not understand why Christians were the ones who were vociferously fighting against President Nana Akufo-Addo’s plan to build the cathedral.
The president, on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, unveiled the design and architecture of the National Cathedral in a brief ceremony at the Accra International Conference Center.
It would house impressive chapels and baptistery, a 5,000-seat auditorium, a great central hall, a music school, spaces for choir and multipurpose rehearsals, an art gallery and a shop.
The president said the building would be an iconic center for Thanksgiving and worshiping God for his mercies and urged Ghanaians to support the project.
However, making that a reality requires the demolition of some state institutions, including residential bungalows, some of which were built five years ago and are home to some Supreme Court justices.
The two main parties, the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) disagree on the project.
Furthermore, the acting secretary general of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Kwabena Bonfeh Jnr., Has brought the government to the Supreme Court on the matter.
During his second sermon on Sunday, November 11, 2018, the founder of Action Chapel International (ACI) said, “Someone asked me the other day, ‘Why are you so passionate about this National Cathedral?’ And I looked at them, and it was a believer wondering. And I told them: ‘I have been here for a long time, I have never seen any president say:’ We came to power and I want to build a National Cathedral in the name of the Lord. ‘ And listen to me; at least, it’s one thing that he [the president] You cannot love your children or your immediate family. At least, it is something that someone is determined to do for the benefit of the Lord’s name and for the benefit of others and humanity, and not for himself.
“And do you know the people who fight? Not other religions, but we are Christians. It is us Christians fighting it. And some of you are fighting it because it is not your party or your president that is building it, so you must oppose it. And some of you love your political parties and are more loyal to your political parties than to the Bible and the cause of Christ. That’s where we are, ”he said.
For him, if Muslims had a national mosque, he did not see the need for the controversy surrounding the president’s proposal to build a national cathedral and therefore wondered why Christians had been the most vocal against it. she.
“The Muslims have built a National Mosque and no one has complained about it. But a national cathedral, where there will be the first of its kind, biblical museums with the different characters of the Bible on display where children, families, people will travel from far and near, to pay and come and look, and will stand . For God and the country, as a memorial, we will oppose: ‘Who finances it? Who is giving you? Who finances it? Where does the money come from?’ Like someone asked you for your money. And we will oppose it, even when we don’t understand it. We don’t ask the questions, we criticize things, we fight everything ”.
Archbishop Duncan-Williams, who is being announced that he will have a convention in Accra soon, said Christians have become too critical even of the things they mean for the advancement of God’s Kingdom than non-Christians.
Citing an example to back up his point, he said: “In this [forthcoming] Convention, a singer is coming. I’ve heard of him. I’ve never seen it before. And a Muslim friend said to one of my daughters in church, ‘Ask dad if he’s interested in having this singer.’ So, I googled it. The boy is good. And I said, ‘How much will he charge?’ And they mentioned some serious dollar numbers. And I said, ‘I haven’t budgeted for that, so I don’t know if I can do it.’ And this boy [the Muslim friend] he told my church sister, who is one of my spiritual daughters; He said, ‘Tell dad not to worry about money. If you want to have the guy, I’ll pay for it. ‘ And this is not a Christian.
“And the Christians are sitting there and all we do is criticize. Be critical of everything. There are Christians who do not care about the cause of Christ. “
“There are Christians [that] If they go to a secret meeting and hear that there is a plan against my life, they will shut up and won’t tell me because they don’t want to lose their job. And they will see me fall into a trap because they love their position, they love their names, they love their image of what they love the cause of Christ. “
“But you know something, you won’t live forever. No matter how long you live, the day will come when we will all stand before Christ and our motives and the reasons why we live, everything will touch us as you see me on the screen. Your life will be at stake for you and it is not God who will judge you; your works will judge you. That day we would know what you lived for ”, he pointed out.
