Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Mason Greenwood is showing the kind of shot he saw from Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Greenwood came off the bench during United’s 4-1 thrashing of Istanbul Basaksehir after missing both matches on either side of the international break.
The 19-year-old was assisted in the final stages as he expertly groomed fellow understudy Daniel James.
And after another impressive performance, an enthusiastic Ferdinand praised the young forward.

“Look at him, he’s growing too,” he said on BT Sport. “It will be a beast to go with the technique that he has, the understanding, his spatial awareness, he plays with both feet.”
Greenwood scored 19 goals in his breakout season at Old Trafford and Ferdinand believes he sees similarities with Van Nistelrooy, who scored 150 times during his time in Manchester.
Ferdinand added: “I want to go see the training. That’s what he gets out of me. I want to go see his technique, he throws balls into the back of the net.

“We are talking about Ruud van Nistelrooy, you are excited to see the spikers who finish aggressively, but with precision. He has it in abundance.”
His fellow Red Devils legend Paul Scholes is also a big fan of the academy graduate, suggesting that his ability in front of goal is greater than that of his attacking colleagues Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial. .
After the win over RB Leipzig earlier this month, he said: “I’m very excited about it.
