As Ghana’s 2020 presidential and parliamentary races gather momentum by the day, the media have been ordered not to amplify any disparaging or baseless comments from various politicians seeking to ignite ethnic, religious or political violence.
According to the president of the World Peace Volunteers, Mr. Seth Osei Acheampong, the media is recognized as the fourth arm of government and has the power to prevent political parties and their actors from using their campaign platforms or the media space to set the agenda for negative discussions.
At a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, the president of the World Peace Volunteers said that Ghana would peacefully emerge from the upcoming general elections once again if the media remained steadfast, responsible, objective, independent. , accurate, ethical. and truthful in their reports and rejected all forms of incentive.
Osei Acheampong, who praised the media in general for their reporting just so far in this 2020 campaign season, pleaded with them not to allow the standards they had set for themselves to be compromised for propaganda purposes or for the purposes of advertising. profit.

The international crusader for peace also tasked all political leaders to protect themselves from comments that were harmful or offensive to people with different cultural, traditional or religious beliefs.
Calling on all political parties and other key stakeholders to cooperate and support the Election Commission to fulfill its constitutional mandate on December 7, 2020, Mr. Osei Acheampong made a passionate appeal to members of the opposition parties to refrain from making further disparaging remarks about the Electoral Commission in order to enhance Ghana’s democratic credentials.
On the other hand, Mr. Osei Acheampong asked the state to give special recognition to the contributions of the various civil society organizations to ensure peaceful and credible elections in Ghana.
He said it was “time for the state to measure the performance of CSOs and provide them with partial resources to improve their operational capabilities. Funding is becoming a major issue for CSOs, especially in the COVID-19 era and the sooner the government comes to our aid, the better. ”
The president of the World Peace Volunteers emphasized the need for the media, political actors and formal institutions to perform their expected functions to ensure that the elections are credible, peaceful and the result acceptable to all.
