Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Michael Brown has revealed that he has been informed of a special clause in Harry Kane’s current contract with Spurs whereby no one at the north London club can earn more than the England captain.
According to Sportac, Harry Kane and Tanguy Ndombele are currently the top earners at Tottenham (aside from Gareth Bale, who is on loan from Real Madrid), and both currently earn £ 200,000 a week.
Multiple reports during the month (Telegraph and The Athletic) have revealed that Tottenham is in talks with Son Heung-min about a new deal that would bring it on a par with the club’s higher revenues.
While discussing Son’s contract talks, Brown revealed that any new deal handed over to the South Korean would not be worth more than Kane’s because of the clause in the forward’s contract.
The expert told Football Insider: “I would be surprised if it was 200,000 pounds a week, it would, because of the pay structure there, I have been told [there’s a clause] doesn’t beat Harry Kane. “
Still, Brown backed Son to put pen to paper in a new deal with Spurs given how well the 28-year-old at the club is doing.
He added: “It’s about him signing his contract, I think he’s in such a good place, why wouldn’t you sign a five-year contract playing on this side of Spurs?
“He has a great role, he’s scoring goals, creating goals and they’re at the top of the league, so I think why don’t you go enjoy the next few years and see where that goes.
“Yes, it is of great interest to a lot of people, but it is fantastic.”
