The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has advised supporters of political parties not to gather at polling stations after the vote.
Nor should they usurp the duties of accredited electoral agents and create unnecessary tension in polling stations.
Patrick Asare, Head of Programs for the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Municipality of Asante-Akim Sur, who gave the advice, said it was a civic duty of the electorate to observe all electoral rules for a successful election.
He spoke at a meeting of the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (PIDC) as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful election in the municipality.
The meeting was attended by representatives of political parties, clergy, Muslim leaders, police and the assembly.
Chaired by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Fredrick Agyemang, the Committee was formed by the NCCE to allow key stakeholders to discuss issues related to the upcoming elections.
Asare called for political tolerance and urged the leaders of the political parties to show the way for the followers to follow.
He pleaded with the parties to put Ghana first in their activities and reminded them that their actions and inactions could trigger violence in the country.
Mr. Gaston Defoe, NCCE City Director, asked PIDC members to demonstrate their commitment to the committee’s mandate to resolve election issues amicably and quickly.
He said Ghana had a reputation to protect as one of the most stable democracies in sub-Saharan Africa and called on stakeholders to ensure a peaceful election.
The NCCE, he noted, will continue to engage the public in political tolerance and urged clergy and imams to join the campaign using their platforms to preach peace before the elections.
Fredrick Agyemang, Chairman of the PIDC, said that all well-meaning Ghanaians had an interest in the elections and that it was important that all commit to peaceful elections.
