A village, a dam, a complete waste of government resources – Mahama

The presidential candidate of the Democratic National Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, says that the project of “one village, one dam” of the incumbent government is a waste of national resources.

The former president also described the project as “a village, a pond” and said that each dam is a “duck pond”.

“When we were in office, we were building the Tamni irrigation dam, we didn’t finish before we left. And after we left office, that project came to a halt. This project was supposed to irrigate 3,000 hectares of land for irrigated agriculture in the dry season.

Instead, they went and started digging a pond in a village. They call those little ponds that ducks swim in prey, a complete waste of government resources. What our people are looking for are viable dams that can provide water throughout the year so they can engage in irrigated agriculture and gardening in the dry season, ”he said.

Mr. Mahama made the remarks during an engagement with Bawku residents in the Upper East region on Monday, where he noted that among his party’s intentions for the community is paramount to facilitate the creation of sources of employment for its youth.

He also reiterated the promises of NDC’s 2016 campaign to build a new district hospital for the community, as well as what he calls a ‘Kejetia mini market’ and to ensure that all roads in the district are paved.

“We come with the Big Push, and this is going to build hospitals, roads and electricity, water, schools, expand our airports and put in the social infrastructure that will make Ghana’s economy take off,” he added.

The NDC flag bearer is currently on the second day of his three-day campaign tour of the Upper East Region, where he paid courtesy visits to the Tongraan, Nab Kugbilsong Nalebegtang, the chiefs and people of Gambibgo and Sherigu in the electoral districts of Bolgatanga Este and Central.

He is also expected to sympathize with the families of the late Bishop Jacob Ayeebo, a former member of the State Council, and Faisal Anaba, a former Upper East Regional Vice Minister in Zebilla, Bawku West district.
