Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley has claimed that his former club is a better team than Tottenham and that the Premier League title is more likely destined for Stamford Bridge than Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Chelsea, like the Spurs, brought in a number of big-name signings over the summer and their squad seems to have established itself fairly quickly.
After showing some defensive weaknesses in their first games of the season, Frank Lampard’s men have been toughened up at the rear in recent weeks, having won their last five matches in all competitions.
Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Manchester City on Saturday brought them to the top of the table, but Chelsea are only two points behind their London rivals in third place.
Spurs will travel to Stamford Bridge next weekend in what could be a huge test for both teams’ title aspirations, but Burley is confident that Chelsea have better options than North Londoners on the field.
When asked if Chelsea have a better chance of winning the title than Tottenham, the expert told ESPN FC (as relayed by Goal.com): “Oh yeah. I think Chelsea are a much more talented team than Spurs.
“Tottenham have a good squad, but Chelsea have an incredible amount of attacking players.
“They have great experience with the signing of Thiago Silva, they have a natural left back in Ben Chilwell. Reece James’ rise has been meteoric – he’s taking his game to a new level.
“They have reinforced their situation as a goalkeeper and Frank [Lampard] He mentioned that N’Golo Kante looks like the player he was a couple of years ago.
“I think Chelsea have better options [than Tottenham]. They are in the best shape possible to mount a challenge for the title. “
