The Police Administration has debunked speculation that some uniformed men in an armored vehicle are vigilantes.

“The attention of the Police Administration has been drawn to speculation that a video showing police officers sitting in the armored police vehicle with registration number GP 2619 is a video of Vigilante.”

In a press release signed by Superintendent Ms. Sheilla Kessie Abayie-Buckman, Director of Public Relations and seen on the Ghana Police Service (GPS) website, she said that the speculations were false and the Administration considers them unfortunate.

He said the people seen in the video were SWAT officers from the GPS, who were involved in special operations of a march en route in the Upper East Region.

“The brown uniform and the headdress that some of them wear are training clothes,” he added.

The press release hinted that, in light of public inquiries into the police uniforms to be used for this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh, has ordered that all officers police officers wear traditional uniforms in blue-black, black and police camouflage; either office or operational clothing with the appropriate helmet for police functions.

“However, uniformed officers from the Police Intelligence and Criminal Investigations Departments (CID and PID) will wear their approved open and undercover uniforms with their ID cards available for identification,” he said.

He stated that “The IGP has also ordered that no police officer wear a beard, except those who have been advised by medical officers not to shave close, backed by the document” Shaved with excuse. “

The public, he warned, should be aware that any police officer wearing unauthorized clothing for electoral duties would be engaging in professional misconduct, which is subject to disciplinary procedures.
