The general secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP), John Boadu, has challenged the former special counsel, Martin Amidu, to report to the Ghana Police Service to authenticate the allegations of threats against him (Amidu’s).

Mr. Martin Amidu announced his resignation on Monday citing many reasons, including interference with his work by President Akufo Addo.

He says he has received threats after his resignation.

In an interview with television journalist Umaru Sanda, he revealed that there is a plot to send armed robbers to attack him.

“All these threats to bother me, armed robbery, burning my house, I am aware,” he said.

In addition, he revealed that he has tried to draw the attention of the Minister of National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah, to the attacks, but to no avail.

“I tried to call Kan Dapaah, he didn’t choose him and I got a former national security adviser to contact him and tell him that, and I know the people involved, I can name them, but I’m saving it in the meantime. I lay down my life for the Republic of Ghana and the President will be responsible for whatever happens to me. ”

Furthermore, he warned that President Nana Akufo-Addo should be held responsible if anyone hurts him.

“I put my life in the Republic of Ghana and the president will be responsible for anything that happens to me … I put my life in the Republic of Ghana and the president has a constitutional duty to protect me. I do not need any security in my home or that follow me and anyone who makes an attempt will be to blame himself, “he exclaimed.

He added; “I am Ghanaian and I am not afraid of anything and, as I said, dying in the cause of the fight against corruption is what I started with President Jerry Rawlings on December 31, 1982 and I am not going to leave it because some people think that can threaten me. I don’t give a damn about that.

“… If you don’t stop, I’ll answer. As for what I’ll do, I’m saving it for myself.

In response to the troubles during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” on Friday, John Boadu cast doubt on most of Martin Amidu’s claims.

He was emphatic that no person has threatened Mr. Amidu and that his claims are a mere figment of the latter’s imagination.

” No one has ever threatened you. Are you going to blame me if a person from NDC calls to threaten you? A person from the PPP can call you and threaten you … An armed robber can call you and threaten you. A pastor can call him and threaten him. ”

“What’s the wisdom in what you’re saying?” He questioned.

John Boadu challenged Martin Amidu to report the threats to the police to show that he is indeed in danger.

” You should go report to the police station, ” he said.

No bipartisan appointments!

He also indicated that Mr. Amidu’s conduct before and after his resignation has taught the party a bitter lesson not to reappoint a stranger to government office.

He was of the firm opinion that the resignation of Mr. Amidu has vindicated the party because they have opposed the president’s appointment to the office of the Special Prosecutor.

“To tell the truth, internally, party members were not happy with this appointment, but the president wanted to show the people of Ghana that we can go beyond partisanship. What hurts me about this issue is that Mr. Amidu has nailed it with the argument that if someone is not a member of his party and is competent, he can appoint him in his government so that the country can develop.

“Do you think that with what Mr. Amidu has done, a government will have the confidence to name a stranger? Because when the president calls to have a discussion with the person designated by the outside, everything they discussed is published in the public space. If Amidu was a true supporter and knew how hard we have worked to have power, would he have done what he has done? That’s what hurts me the most. We wanted to create a situation where as long as you are competent no matter where you belong, the nation must make use of your asset. “
