All players in the first two levels of professional football in Spain have been tested for the virus, before a possible resumption of the season.
Five players in the first two divisions of Spanish football have tested positive for coronavirus, confirmed La Liga.
All professional footballers in La Liga and Segunda División are being evaluated before a return to training and a possible resumption of the 2019-20 season, with Spain being one of the European countries most affected by the pandemic.
The League has confirmed that five players tested positive, but all are asymptomatic. The identities of the two are kept anonymous in accordance with data protection regulations in Spain, while Real Betis has announced that Joel Robles, Alfonso Pedraza and Juanmi Jiménez have been infected.
Players will now be placed in isolation and will be tested in the coming days to see if they are still infected. The League said they would also offer tests to the families of the affected players.
An official statement said: “Specifically, between La Liga Santander [first division] and La Liga SmartBank [second division] clubs, five positive cases have been detected in players, all asymptomatic and in the final phase of the disease, whose specific identity the League does not know in compliance with data protection laws. “
Meanwhile, Dr. Rafael Ramos, president of the Spanish Association of Soccer Doctors, has confirmed that it will not be necessary to quarantine all La Liga teams in the event that one or more players fall ill.
“In La Liga, if there are positive tests during training, the whole team will not be quarantined,” he confirmed.
The clubs have started training again after a long break in the Spanish season, and all the major leagues in the world have also stopped due to the pandemic.
Atlético de Madrid returned to training on Saturday amid reports that Renan Lodi tested positive for coronavirus.
The club welcomed the players to its complex, but Lodi was apparently not one of the team members of head coach Diego Simeone to present himself for the service.
The 22-year-old Brazilian left winger is asymptomatic, Marca reported, and must test negative before he can resume work at the Atleti facility.
Atlético have not officially commented on Lodi’s health situation, but the club seemed to allude to his situation with a Twitter message to his followers.
It said: “Renan Lodi greets you from home. See you soon in the field!”
The Atlético players trained individually on Saturday, spread across various fields to allow for social distancing.
Thomas Partey described Atlético de Madrid’s first training session since the suspension of soccer activities as “different”, and also said that the team “suffered a bit”.
“It was different,” Partey said after the training session. “At first we suffered a bit because we are not used to training and keeping distance [between each other], but we will get used to it.
“We are used to being on vacation, training and playing with friends, but we could only stay at home, so it was difficult. However, due to the situation, we had to get used to it. We had to keep training. At home as much as we could” .
