Former special counsel Martin Amidu says that President Akufo-Addo would be held accountable if something happened to him.
“I put my life in the interests of the Republic of Ghana and the president will be held accountable if something happens to me,” said the former Attorney General.
Martin Amidu in an interview stated that he has since received threats after conducting the anti-corruption assessment report on the Agyapa royalty agreement.
According to him, “threats to pocket me, armed robbery, burn down my house” are some of the threats that have come to his attention.
Mr. Amidu stated that he has separately attempted to report threat-related issues to the Minister of National Security, Ken Daapah, but to no avail.
“I tried to call Ken Dapah, but he didn’t answer, but I did get a former national security adviser to contact him and inform him.”
In his letter of resignation from the President’s Office on Monday, Amidu revealed that the passing of former President Jerry John Rawlings ended the only protection he had.
“The events of November 12, 2020 removed the only protection I had against threats and the plans directed at me to conduct the Agyapa Royalties Limited Transactions Anti-Corruption Assessment Report and dictate that I resign as Special Counsel immediately.”
Amidu argues that the fight against corruption is “mere rhetoric” and adds that the threats he has received as a result of his resignation are an excellent example of fighting corruption.
The ‘Citizen Vigilante’ also threatened to respond publicly if the threats he is receiving as a result of his resignation do not stop.
“Either the attacks stop or I will defend my integrity even if it means my death.”
However, ‘Citizen Vigilante’ says that if pressured, he will respond to these attacks by making it public “without fear or favor, even to the extent that if my life will be put to tell the truth and defend the constitution of Ghana as established by law it will “.
