Three people have suffered serious injuries following a fire in the Sekondi fishing bay in the western region.
Various fishing gears have also been burned to ashes due to the fire outbreak that occurred on Thursday, November 19, 2020.
Subsequently, the Sekondi Fire Command was able to control the fire.
Western Region Fire Command Public Relations Officer DO III Emmanuel Bonney said Citi News that the information available to him suggests that the incident may have been caused by the premixed fuel.
“We received information about the fire around 5 in the afternoon. In two minutes we mobilized and sent to the place. So around 5:15 pm, our men were at the scene and they started putting out the fire. They watched the fire spread to the Sekondi Naval Base and Sekondi Fishing Port, as well as the canoes and their premixed fuel storage. We had to contain the fire and we finally managed to put out the fire around 6:48 pm, ”he said.
DO III Emmanuel Bonney said Citi News that there were no casualties.
“Three people were injured, one in critical condition and the other two suffered injuries to the neck and arms. All were taken to the hospital and are receiving treatment. I think the fire started from where they keep the premixed fuel because it looks like there was some activity there. God willing, by tomorrow we will get all the importance of what they were doing before the fire started. Various fishing gears were burned, including outboard motors, premixed fuel, their personal belongings and small nearby shops. ”
Meanwhile, the mayor of Sekondi-Takoradi, Alhaji Munin Isaah and the deputy from Sekondi who visited the place called for calm.
