Former Manchester United captain Bryan Robson says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made the right decision by naming Harry Maguire as the club’s new boss.

Maguire only joined United last summer, after completing a £ 80 million move from Leicester City, but it has had a major impact on his debut season at Old Trafford.

His arrival has helped prop up United’s bottom four, while his influence off the field has also made a big impression on teammates and club staff.

After Ashley Young moved to Inter Milan in January, Maguire was rewarded with the captain’s armband and Robson says it was the obvious choice.

He told the official Manchester United podcast: “ He was not intimidated by playing for Manchester United. I think Ole made the right decision by giving Harry the captaincy.

“Since then, off the field, he has also influenced the boys, on how you should be a Manchester United player and do commercial things, in addition to taking care of yourself off the field.”

Robson, who spent 13 years at the club as a frame-to-frame midfielder, believes Maguire’s role in the center of defense is ideal for organizing the team on the field.

“Harry had done really well at the World Cup with England,” he added.

“He did very well with Leicester, so when you sign a player like him in a central position, a defender or a midfielder, I think that should be where the captaincy should come from.”

“You must be a demanding figure in your teammates, an organizer, and I think Harry portrayed him as soon as he entered the club.”

Maguire has made 41 appearances in all competitions for the club this period and scored two goals.
