Obuasi Complex Junior High School has been awarded the 2020 Anglogold Ashanti Annual Quiz Competition held in Obuasi.
In a fierce competition involving Independence JHS A and B and Sanso JHS, Obuasi Complex with 60 points, left no stone unturned to clinch the headband. Sanso JHS came second with 35 points, while Independence JHS A and B won third and fourth places with 32 and 22 points respectively …
As a prize, Complex took home four (4) computers, 3-in-1 printer, 4 boxes of large pens, 200 workbooks, 2 dictionaries for their libraries, and a trophy.
The contestants also had tablets each, backpacks, 20 exercise books each, 10 notebooks with paper covers each, dictionary, math game, and a gold medal.
In collaboration with the Obuasi East Education Directorates and the Municipal Districts, the Annual Quiz competition is part of AngloGold Ashanti’s Educational Improvement Program (EIP) which involved 43 schools in both Districts.
In shedding more light on the Educational Improvement Plan, Anglogold Ashanti’s Senior Sustainability Manager, Mina Obuasi, Emmanuel Baidoo said that it is one of the strategic pillars in the Social Management Plan launched last year to help diversify and grow Obuasi’s economy and ensure development in its host communities.
The EIP, he noted, is aimed at increasing the passing rate in the Basic Education Certificate Exam (BECE) in Obuasi from 81% to 90% by 2021.
The municipal executive director, Elijah Adansi Bonah, who was also present at the final, spoke about the importance of the Quiz competition.
He said that pageant competition has become the foundation of education at Obuasi.
He urged parents to support their children and encourage them to participate in the questionnaire whenever it is organized.
He urged students to take their studies seriously to allow them access to higher education on the Knust Obuasi campus, which was recently commissioned by the president.
Obuasi East District Education Director Leticia Obeng said her team had a memorandum of understanding with AGA to see the development of education in Adansi and particularly in Obuasi and the quiz is one of many interventions to help in the development of education. He said that the platform is for learning and supporting the contestants and expressed his sincere thanks to AGA for their support and also to the teachers for preparing the students.
Speaking with the Information Services Department, Jeffery Asiedu, a contestant from the Obuasi Complex expressed his joy and thanked AGA for such a program and appealed to them to continue organizing such programs to challenge their colleagues to also learn more to be awarded like him.
Nana Amonimaa Dede, Adansihemaa expressed her gratitude to AGA for the good works they are doing in Obuasi and Adansi in general. He also urged students to work harder to be successful in the future.
